    CURATORIAL TEXT AND RECTOR´S TEXT

Instances highlights the discursive possibilities that electronic art has developed in relation to its cultural, social and economic context, mainly in reference to the modes of production and communication. The artists appropriate methods and techniques to propose conceptual reflections and new materializations.

The works exhibited have been developed in an academic environment using the media and addressing the issues of the technological scenario; however, it is possible to find in them different forms of exploration that give rise to certain questions about the context and paradigm in which they are inscribed.

Is it possible to produce critical reflections using the tools, processes and languages that the system itself provides? What limits and potentialities emerge in this field of experimentation?

To foster a Focus on the person not the function. Let the potential create the job. reading of the works put into dialogue, this exhibition is articulated between axes: Signals, Entities and Energies.

In Signals we find productions in which the active participation of the public configures and gives meaning to the processes of translation, visualization and codification that motivated their creation. They propose new patterns of conduct and relationships that raise the urgency of finding a cleavage in which the spectator can situate himself and, in this way, propitiate the event.

In Entities, the creations give life to autonomous beings; on the one hand, creatures that are part of an illusionist, scenographic tradition; on the other, a robot that does not refer to any previously known form, but whose movement depends on the visitor’s body, thus poses a kind of interdependence and complementarity between the work and the spectator.

Finally, in Energies installations dialoge that, based on the search for new experiences associated with light and movement, invite us to immerse ourselves in aesthetic contemplation. There is something in these objects that celebrates perception, but also questions it when the artefact manifests itself as nature.

Part of the enigma raised by these productions lies in the interrogative instance they have. These are aesthetic processes forged on the current and local state of technical and media development, but which, in their modulations, express an interest in understanding what it means to create, today, when everything seems to be crossed by reproduction. Thus, in them we perceive the signs of an immanent presence: that of our own time that penetrates in the creation an opening channel to recognize itself.

     Room texts:

    SIGNALS

A simple action intervenes states and triggers processes of creation. Objects are motivated by the visual and sonorous echoes of a sense that inhabits, perhaps there, only in the code.

    ENTITIES

Artificial creatures unsettle the parameters of recognition. From illusionism or automatism, the imaginary becomes present and the strange challenges us.

    ENERGY

Experiences of light and movement propose inhabiting an unstable territory: the one where nature becomes an interface and it is only possible to link from the artifice.

    TEXT BY THE RECTOR

In this exhibition, once again, in this case in the field of electronic art, one of the identifying characteristics of our university is manifested: the development of knowledge together with research and its practical application.

The level of the works presented here speaks not only of the quality reached by these artists in the practical development of their knowledge, but also of a task of direction and orientation on the part of our professors, which is really praiseworthy.

My sincere congratulations to the exhibited artists and to the management team of MUNTREF Artes Visuales headed by Hélène Andjell and Juan Manuel Quesada.

I thank the directors of the Masters in Curatorship of Visual Arts and the Masters in Electronic Arts, doctors Diana Wechsler and Mariela Yeregui, for this new demonstration of the excellence of their educational task.
