PRESENTATION OF ACÁ AND ACULLÁ (HERE AND THERE): A DOCUMENTARY ON THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE

The screening of the film will take place on June 15 at 4:00 p.m. at the MUNTREF Museum of Immigration, with the participation of its director Hernán Khourian, the researcher Daniel Feierstein and the writer Ana Arzoumanian

The documentary Acá y acullá emerged from a film workshop that its director, Hernán Khourian, dictated for primary and secondary students at the Jrimian school of Valentín Alsina, back in 2015, within the framework of the centenary of the massacre suffered by the Armenian people.

The film is the result of these meetings, which were nourished with the questions that the children themselves asked to their families.

The screening, which is free of charge, will be carried out in a more than appropriate place, the MUNTREF Museum of Immigration, and will include a debate in which, in addition to its author, the director of the Genocide Studies Center of the National University of Tres de Febrero (UNTREF), will participate Daniel Feierstein, and the poet Ana Arzoumanian, who played a key role in the film.

“In Acá y acullá there is nothing to affirm, but what is sought is to dismantle some issues and expose the contradictions, that’s why the participation of Ana, who graduated from the same school, was very important”, explained the filmmaker, indicating that his role was “to unveil certain senses between generations”.

Thus, from the dialogue between Khourian, Arzoumanian, the students and their families.

the work constructs an interweaving of stories and approaches on the Armenian genocide and the diaspora in Argentina.

“I did not go to an Armenian school or speak the language, but my two grandparents were survivors of the genocide,” said the director, adding that this is why the documentary was something latent for him. “What I sought was to construct from the others, through fragments of a collective, from familiar holes, repeated silences, finding more than answers, questions and images, also involving myself from a self-reflecting place” he explained.

UNTREF’s support was fundamental for the realization of Acá y acullá. Coordinated by the Audiovisual Laboratory of Research and Experimentation (LAIE) of the Master in Documentary Journalism, the representatives of the University were in charge of the installation of sound equipment through their content production company, UNTREF Media, and together with Khourian, Paula Zyngierman, the teacher of the documentary, took charge of the production of the documentary, who also had the assistance of the degree student, Aylee Ibáñez.
