• Exodus Library

From 25 June to 30 November

Libraries and archives are silent stores of stories, secrets and enigmatic presences (or not so much), but they always open up questions that guide the possibility of deciphering the keys that organize them. These keys may allow us to unveil the thought processes and the cultural horizon of the person who built that library or archive.

Making use of the uniqueness of these devices – capable of bringing together collections of books, papers, photos and various objects – Hassan Bourkia builds his own libraries, inventing archives ready to evoke, in each installation, a particular dimension. Exodur is one of these libraries, conceived as a specific site especially for the Immigrants’ Hotel: in its configuration it alludes not only to transits or migrations but also to the movement of entire populations. Exodo refers to the biblical story as well as to the forced marches of populations at different moments in history, such as that of the people of Jujuy in times of struggles for independence withdrawing as a response to the advance of the realistic army, that of the Republicans leaving Spain at the end of the Civil War or that of the Syrian people today, among many others. This installation places at km 0, where millions of people arrive in Argentina, a project with a dimension that crosses, in its possible references, different times and spaces.
